Job Description
The Medical Testing Laboratory Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Medical Testing Laboratory at our client's facility in Dublin. This leadership role includes managing laboratory staff, ensuring strict quality control, maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations, and fostering collaboration with healthcare professionals. The manager will drive continuous process improvement, uphold safety standards, and ensure the highest quality laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day operations of the medical testing laboratory, ensuring smooth workflow, resource management, and efficient sample processing.
Manage, supervise, and develop laboratory staff—planning schedules, assigning duties, and providing ongoing training and support.
Ensure compliance with all local and international regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards (including CORU registration requirements).
Maintain and monitor quality assurance programs, manage internal audits, and drive corrective actions in case of deviations.
Implement and uphold laboratory protocols to guarantee reliable, accurate, and timely testing outcomes.
Collaborate extensively with healthcare teams to support patient care and clinical decision-making.
Oversee the management of laboratory information systems and relevant technological tools.
Monitor inventory, manage procurement of supplies and equipment, and ensure optimal use of laboratory resources.
Qualifications
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
Registered or eligible for registration with CORU as a Medical Scientist (this is mandatory).
Professional certification desirable (ASCP, AMT, or equivalent).
At least 7 years of full-time clinical experience as a Medical Scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory, including a minimum of 2 years in a promotional post (e.g., Senior or Specialist role).
Direct prior experience in a supervisory or management position within a clinical laboratory.
In-depth knowledge of laboratory operations, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory information systems and current technology relevant to clinical diagnostics.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills, with proven ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
